Tuesday Treasures

I've been having a major spring clean and trying to de-clutter a bit. Whist sorting through some magazines I found the very first issue of Australian Country Craft.  I remember how excited I was when this magazine came out, there was nothing else like it.  I read it over and over again and I stitched this sampler, which still hangs on the sampler wall in our bedroom. (top right corner of picture)

Today we are so spoiled with dozens of fabulous magazines available in the newsagents, but 20 years ago this magazine was such a treasure.
Do you have something you treasure to share with us today?  Just pop your details into Mr Linky and play along.

PS One of my very favourite bloggers, sweet Shell at Raspberry Rabbits is offering a free BOM starting in January 2012.
Something to look forward to.

  6. Your sampler is just beautiful as is your gorgeous bedroom wall. I have that copy also and I agree it was so exciting when it began. I used to love to look at all the wonderful country decorated rooms and I am sure is partly responsible for my 'clutterbug' habits.

  8. Hi Mel, I remember how excited I was when I found the first issue of Country craft magazine also, it was in a sevice station -mixed business in the small town of Wandong Victoria, I have not been able to part with it either. I love your sampler and your decor. Love R.

  9. It's so funny you that your post is on old magazines. I just ordered 6 old issues of Country Marketplace. I guess I'm just missing the feeling that all these magazines gave which was handmade, heartfelt and cozy. Your sampler hanging on your wall is a true testimate to that feeling.
Thanks for the mention of my BOM! I'm so excited I'm about to burst!!! hee, hee, hee.

  15. Hi Melody! I have the very first issue as well! I remember how excited I was to find it, as previously I was getting subscriptions to Quilt, Quilters Newsletter and a couple of other Magazines from the U.S. It would have been 1990/1991, as I had just left work. I nearly drove the newsagent batty waiting for the next issue.- And guess what is on my bedroom wall? the very same sampler, mine doesn't have the coloured board around it, but it is also in a dark timber frame. :)

  17. Beautiful cross-stitches Melody. Isn't it fun to look at old magazines and see how much styles and fabrics have changed. We had a challenge for our Wednesday stitching group this year to make a project from an old magazine. It was so much fun that we are doing it again, so I am collecting old magazines to distribute at Christmas time.
