A Quilt for the Divas
This is a quilt my sewing group, The Village Quilters, made as a charity quilt.
I just finished sewing on the binding and tomorrow I will take it to sewing group to give to another group member, Sandra.
Sandra is a remarkable woman who was involved in an horrific car crash which robbed her of her sight completely. She sees just blackness, no shadows, no faint light just unending blackness.
Before losing her sight she was a very talented needle-worker and crafts person, doing a bit of everything from patchwork to stump-work embroidery. Fortunately she is an excellent knitter and is still able to pursue this craft. She, and her carer Geraldine, joined our group about a year ago and we all admire her greatly and are in awe of her courage and strength.
She and others formed a support group, called the Divas, whose motto is 'Women getting on with Life', and this donated quilt will be raffled as a fundraiser for the Divas at the Guide Dogs for the Blind open day early next year.
The quilt was beautifully quilted by Bronwyn, who was one of the founding members of the Village Quilters. She now lives in beautiful Korrumburra, so we don't see her at sewing group on Wednesday mornings (bit of a long drive) but I really miss her. She has a quilting business at http://www.bmquilting.com.au/

The quilt is beautiful and so are you guys for doing this for her. I bet she will explore every little detail!!
Thankyou for sharing this.
What a beautiful quilt - and what a great cause! That is so sad about Sandra, I greatly admire her courage in getting on with her life.
ReplyDeleteOh Melody , that is an incredible story with an incredible lady and I love what your group is doing for her , the quilt is gorgeous but the thought behind it is the most important part and I applaud you and your quilting friends and all the best to Sandra .
