Feeling sad

Last week we found out one of John's younger brothers has cancer in his liver, pancreas, lungs and lymphatic system.  Things are looking pretty grim for him.

And just now our beautiful neighbour has told us she has breast cancer and will be undergoing a double mastectomy before Christmas.  She has two gorgeous little primary school children.  So I'm feeling very sad right now and working out what I can do in a practical way to help both families.

I think this cute little heart shaped scissor holder would make a great Christmas gift for a sewing friend.
The pattern and a great tutorial is very kindly shared HERE by wonderful Wendy at Handmade Harbour.

Hope you enjoy a peaceful day
Love

  1. I hope you can spend some quality time with your BIL and his family in the coming months. I am sure there will be lots of little acts of kindness you will be able to do for both your BIL and neighbour in the days to come.

  2. Yucky news indeed!so sorry. From experience, I can offer a suggestion on what to do. Cancer becomes a very lonely disease. ..friends and relatives suddenly stop calling and visiting because of fear or they don't want to bother you or they don't know what to say.....these are just a few of the excuses I received. DO VISIT DO CALL OFTEN BOTHER ME,I MIGHT NOT BE HERE LATER, SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE I'M STILL ME DON'T STEP AWAY FROM ME STEP CLOSER :)

  6. How about asking people for particular blocks in a theme you pick and making the little kids quilts? I'm game to help if you want some contributing blocks. You'ld just have to quilt them or get someone to volunteer their time. Just an idea. elanagoldberg5@hotmail.com

  7. Sorry to hear about your BIL and your neighbor. So much sadness and pain lately, we just had a woman get lost on a hike and sadly they found her too late. Prayers for your family.

  8. Oh dear! Many angel hugs to you . It is terrible when we receive so much bad news and it weighs heavily on our hearts and minds. JUst being there for them and being able to listen is a good way to help. Maybe some special little Christmas treats or gifts for the children and a hamper for your neighbour may be appreciated. Perhaps you could put some things like lip balm, hand cream etc in the hamper to help her feel more comfortable during her recovery and a little hand made gift? IT is difficult to know how to help. Please look after yourself too.
