Hooray 2015 and a new start

I'll get the horrible thing over first.  I was feeling quite ill between Christmas and the New Year...and each day I got a little bit worse.  I tried ignoring my symptoms hoping I could make them go away by willpower alone...however on Monday I ended up with two ambulances arriving at my place and off I went in a MICA ambulance.

The ambulance officers thought I was having a heart attack as I had severe chest pain, strong nausea,  dizziness, confusion, extreme shortness of breath, I just couldn't breathe.  I felt so terrible I really did think I might die because I just couldn't get any air into my lungs.

The ambulance had arrived in a couple of minutes and the Austin Hospital was fabulous - no waiting, and thankfully two big shots of morphine and some anti-nausea drugs too.  I underwent a barrage of tests and was very grateful to discover I had not suffered a heart attack.  But there is no resolution as yet as they need to investigate more to see what happened.

The doctor was very thorough and they discovered a few other things wrong with me - including the disconcerting comment that 'there is something very strange going on with your brain and not just your MS'.  Another result looks like I might also be joining dear Jenny from Elefantz with Hashimoto's disease.  So I think I'm going to be spending quite a bit of time at the hospital in 2015.  I plan to prepare quite a bit of hand stitching so I can happily occupy myself in waiting rooms.

OK...now I've filled in you on my latest health dramas...on to happier things.  As you can see I'm in the process of updating my blog.  I like to change my header and background each year, to reflect what I plan to sew that year.  You can see there is a lot of woolen fabric there as I've got a pretty good wool stash happening and this year I plan a couple of wool quilts + some smaller projects.  The first one will be one I've designed featuring wool applique and hexagons and if it turns out the way I hope, I'll be sharing the pattern with you.

I received so many wonderful gifts from swap partners and bloggy friends over the Christmas period and I'll be sharing pictures of them over the next couple of weeks.  Peg was my partner in the Friends Having Fun Christmas swap and wow did she ever spoil me.  This was my final, 'open on Christmas Day' present from sweet Peg.
Here is Peg's beautiful quilt in my front garden, my special little tranquil place, where I like to lie on the ground and look up to the sky through the leaves of my towering gum trees.  Now I have something beautiful to lie upon while sky gazing, thank you so much dear sweet Peg.

If you pop over to A Girl in Paradise you will find a fabulous and very informative tutorial to make this sweet little pincushion.  Here is the LINK.

I've so much more to share, so many more plans for the year...so I'll be back tomorrow.  Hope I see you then,
Have a wonderful first day of 2015
Love

  18. Oh Mel, you poor love...how much more do you have to suffer before the medics find an answer? Like everyone else here, I am hoping that the diagnosis won't be as bad as feared, or if it is, that something can be done to help you. You are so active and cheerful when you are having a good day, it has been hard to believe that you have a chronic illness. Life can be so cruel and often to the nicest people, and not the arxxxxxs who get away with murder!
I posted a comment on Christine's blog asking her to find a spare half day when you can both come over for that cocktail party we discussed last year. Fingers crossed that you will be well enough at least some of the time to make it :-)

  28. What a scare, Mel! Terrible having to go off in an ambulance...you must have been so frightened not being able to get a breath. My poor sweet Mel...I wish health and better news in 2015 for you!
So glad it wasn't a heart attack. Christmas Eve and Day my daughter spent at the hospital with Sam (3 1/2)...there's a virus going around in the states here and children have died from it. He too couldn't get a breath and on top of that he was throwing up etc; it aggravated his bronchial problems but he's okay now....whew...that is so scary for the person and for the people that love them. I hope you stay nice and healthy now and they figure out what's wrong and just fix it!
Lovely quilt and cute pin cushion. I really love your new background and header and especially your "saying" on the header.....you are "sew" clever! LOL!
