Turning Japanese....

....I think I'm turning Japanese - I've now got the 1980's song by the Vapours stuck in my head.

Yesterday Simone of  Quilts N Cats and I travelled in to the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne to the Australasian Quilt Festival.  If you have never visited this magnificent building here are a couple of pictures so you can see what a treasure it is.

Definitely a fabulous venue for a quilt show.

One of the real treats was a quilt exhibition from Japan.  We were lucky enough to chat to two of the quilt makers
Here is Keiko Miyake and her beautiful quilt called Kaleidoscope
and Toshie Kumegawa with her delightful quilt Playing a Tune.

Meeting these ladies was a highlight of the day.  They gave us both some exquisite Kimono fabric.  I'm going to use mine to make some of the wonderful flowers which are in today's free pattern link.

Melanie at Kimono Reincarnate has a fabulous detailed tutorial to make these exquisite flowers - Tsumami Kanzashi.  Thank you so much Melanie.

  8. What a wonderful day you must have had. I'd love to make it to the Quilt Convention in Melb one day. I've done exhibits for the flower show in the building and it's an amazing venue! Those little flowers are so clever.

  9. I'll bet you get yours done before I do mine. We shall see won't we.
    They look lovely too.

  10. Wow! That's a stunning venue for the quilt show. I'd have had a crick in my neck from looking up at fabulous roof.... if I could have torn my eyes from the quilts that is.
Can hardly wait to see the flowers you make from your Kimono fabric... have fun.

  11. I love that building too Mel. The photos don't do it justice. It is one of our city's many architectural gems. Thanks for reminding me that I need to make another visit there soon. PS I didn't get to the show.
