Every time I have driven past the Mission to Seafarers I've longed to explore the eccentric little building surrounded by concrete and modern development. From my National Trust membership I knew it was an amalgamation of Spanish Mission and the Arts and Craft styles. I am particularly interested in the Arts and Crafts movement and longed to see inside this fascinating building.
And on Sunday I got my chance. As part of Melbourne Open House 2011 I toured the building and was captivated.
How fabulous is this plaster molding and I adored the chapel's pulpit which was the shape of a ship's stern

Melbourne Open House is a brilliant idea. Love the idea of seeing parts of buildings normally closed to the public. Looks like you made a really good choice!

ReplyDeleteGreat building- lucky you. Brisbane had its first Open House last October but sadly, I was already booked that weekend. Looking forward to the one this year and a chance to visit some wonderful places not usually open to the public.
