This week my treasure is the Diamond Valley Miniature Railway, as it has played a large role in our family. There's a great playground, pony rides, parkland and lovely river walks at Eltham Lower Park, where it is located. It's only about a ten minute drive from home so we took Sam and Jack there quite often when they were small, especially since Sam had a passion for steam trains from when he was a tiny little boy.
As soon as he was old enough he joined the railway, worked on the station, then learned to drive the trains. He is now the vice president. (That's Sam second from the left)
Everyone at the railway has been working really hard for a special event coming up this weekend. The 3 millionth passenger is due to ride on Sunday and there will be wonderful gifts for this person and a fantastic celebration for everyone. It is also their annual Steam Gala.
It's a fabulous ride in a beautiful bushland setting and you can get more details HERE. I have so many treasured memories of fun times spent here.
Do you have a special place, person, thing or event you treasure? Please pop your details into Mr Linky and share it here. I'm looking forward to seeing your treasure this week.
How interesting Melody and so nice that Sam is living his dream job!The three millionth passenger is simply amazing , wow , a treasure indeed .
ReplyDeleteMy kids would love that.
ReplyDeleteHow great is it that your son gets to spend so much time doing what he enjoys!
I don't think I will be linking up today. But hope to join back up next week.

I am so glad I found your post this week. I just did a post on my father and a camera I found this weekend. Your post brings so many memories of my father-in-law who is a huge train buff. They actually traveled to Australia to ride trains. Sadly my dad is gone, FIL is in a nursing home, but the memories are wonderful.

Hi Melody, I have just joined your Tuesday Treasures link. It is a wonderful idea to take time to think of the things we really treasure. I look forward to Tuesday! The railway is such a popular attraction and so special for your family.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone play Tuesday treasures? Do we need to sign up somewhere, or just post and link? Perhaps I'll join in a couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteThat train sure is popular. I have wonderful memories of watching the guys putting things together and testing the little trains when my dad used to play cricket at that ground. Sure we got to ride too. Perfect treasure.
ReplyDeleteThe train looks great and the blokes look pretty serious in their overalls.
ReplyDeleteHow fun is that? I love trains and we used to stop at a park that sounds very similar to this on our way to the coast when my 3 boys were small. Brings back very special memories for me!!
