WARM

I love to listen to Clare Bowditch on ABC local radio Melbourne - 774 Melbourne.  I find her charming, engaging and very informative.  Last week she featured a guest talking about the WARM project, a community textile art project.

A year or so ago I made some poppies for the ANZAC Day 5000 Poppies Project and loved being part of this group project...

...and so the chance to take part, even in just the tiniest little way, in another community art project really appeals.
Here's a little bit about the project.  I think it will be dear to the heart of many of you, my lovely blogworld friends.  The following text and pictures come from the Sustainable Environmental Arts Movement. SEAM.

Calling all knitters!  You are invited to knit for this exciting large-scale, community textile art project.  All you have to do to get involved is to knit one or more of the WARM pattern pieces, and send them to us to be included in the overall artwork.

About WARM

WARM reflects on why the earth is warming and what we can do to create a sustainable and safe climate future.
WARM is made up of two large-scale images created by Lars Stenberg:

A landscape scarred by coal mining

The same landscape many decades later, regenerated and renewed after the closure of the coal mine.
From March to end of August 2016, knitters will create hundreds of knitted pieces designed by Georgie Nicolson of tikki and including gum leaves, trees, native flowers, wind turbines and knitted squares. During several days of installation, these knitted pieces will be assembled over a picture of the first image, to create the second image of the renewed landscape – like an enormous collage. The final work will be exhibited at the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery in September.
Join us in this collaborative art project, share your knitting skills or learn to knit, and connect with others who care about sustainable living.

I'm really looking forward to being part of this . It would be fabulous if some of you play along too.

Today I had lunch with fabulous Kaye from Kitten Stitching.  Tomorrow I'll show you the amazing gift she gave to me.  I was totally spoilt.
