Bad Kitty

A couple of weeks ago I saw a little face peering through my bedroom window. Once it caught my attention, the most pitiful meows could be heard.
So out I went armed with meat balls and milk - don't panic, it was all I had but I now know better and have proper cat food and lactose free milk.  The kitty gobbled it all up.

The next day it appeared at the window again and the same thing happened except this time it bit me...I mean really bit me...very hard...drawing much blood and leaving a large bruise. The following day it lunged at my leg, bit me and hissed, but still gobbled down its cat food.  Yes Bad Kitty had arrived.
As the days passed it attacked John as he climbed the stairs but still gobbled down the food I gave it. I've persevered and now Bad Kitty will let me pat him and he purrs very loudly indeed.
I think he is a boy but can't be sure as his fur is very long.  He rolls on his back for me to pat his tummy but I'm not that silly as I see him flexing his claws at the same time.
As it is winter here and pretty cold I decided Bad Kitty needed a temporary house.  First I put down a small tarpaulin, then an old coffee table as I didn't want Bad Kitty on the cold ground.  Next I covered an old dog bed with one of my jumpers.  Finally Henry's old cubby went over the top...Bad Kitty explored inside and happily he seems very pleased with his home.  I'm waiting to see what will happen next...just hoping food, water, cat milk and some affection will be enough.

Just in case you are worried I have been making efforts to see if he is lost and to try find his owner, and he is free to return to his home whenever he wants.  I am concerned about native fauna but at this stage I don't want to lock him inside in case he wants to go home.  Oh the dilemmas of being an animal lover!
There is a great tutorial, even including a video, to make these adorable kitties HERE at Rainbow Town.
Many many thanks to fabulous Lena for sharing the pattern with us.
Have a wonderful day
Love

  1. Oh Mel you are so sweet and very kind to animals, my only concern would have been an infection from the bites and scratches. Take care xx

  4. Thanks for taking care of bad kitty - he may just be really scared. But do take care with the bites - my mom has had some really nasty infections from her cat.

  5. I found a stray and now he lives in the house and very affectionate, but biting and scratching are his way of showing love, so sometimes strays keep that wild habit. We get cold snowy winters, so for one stray we made a house from a cooler, then lined it with fake fleece, keeps them warm and in the summer, keeps them cool.

  6. Hello Melody,

I think animals know which home to turn up at. Kitty looks fairly well fed and its fur is in good knick too. I hope you get to have proper cuddles with kitty soon.

    Happy days.
    Bev.

  11. I experienced the same thing as this last year with a black kitty. He was "bad kitty" too .... lots of scratches & swipes from him. I have persevered & he has honestly turned out the most loving & loveliest cats I have ever known. Still very much plays to his own rules, but does love me - his "mum". Hope yours turns out the same Mel. He has landed on his feet turning up at your door.

Lil has turned out to be a delightful addition to our home, we let her come and go at first and then she adopted us.

  18. Bless you, Melody.
Your efforts to look after him are much appreciated by Bad Kitty. Does your local area have a missing pets facebook page? Perhaps if you join and publish his picture on the site, someone may recognise him.

  19. You are a very loving caring lady Mel but like Helen said please take care of those bites. My friends son is in hospital after being bitten by their cat on the back of his hand. He has a very bad infection now and may need surgery.

  20. Be careful, Mel. You are very patient with him but cat bites can be serious. He probably just needs to learn to trust.

  21. Lovely story Melody (apart from the Bad Kitty moments!)... I've never seen a kennel for a cat but it is a great idea. Hope you can find out more about the cat's past - it does sound like he is creeping into your hearts! Thanks for the gorgeous link too :-)
