A social history of Australia...

...as shown in the fashions of the day.
Last Monday Christine and I ventured off to the most amazing collection of clothing you are ever likely to see in Australia.
Loel, the owner of the largest private collection of clothing spanning the 200 years of European settlement of Australia, has a particular interest in the social history of our country.  Thus whilst there are some grand gowns there are many more pieces which reflect what ordinary Australians wore in their working, social and home environs.
Here's Loel with Christine and me.  She is totally charming, informative and knowledgeable as she shares her amazing collection with visitors.
I particularly related to the displays of the sixties and seventies, the years of my childhood and teenage years
and couldn't help but image darling Gillian from Silly Gilly wearing some of the delightful outfits from the fifties.
I think the clothes which appealed to me the most were those from the 20's and thirties
and I would have happily worn this outfit home - I even think this one was my size.
I'll share some more tomorrow as there is so much more to tell you.
There is a wonderful tutorial for this delightful string of dollies
right HERE at Love Charla Anne.  Thank you so much for sharing such a cute project.
