Isn't it thrilling when a new project comes together like that - right time, right fabric, right mood. I know that The Home Patch sells crushed walnuts, but you'd have to wait for the mail. Those pincushions are so cute, especially the mother and baby turtle, but I must resist.
ReplyDeleteCUTE ideas!!! Here in the states the crushed walnut shells are sold as "lizard or bird" cage litter in the pet stores. Good luck in the hunt.
ReplyDeleteWalnut shells try pet shops, apparently they use them for lizard/snake litter
ReplyDeleteHi Mel. Mrs Martin's Quilt Shop in Emerald has recently stocked the crushed walnut shells as does The Home Patch in Bathurst and both do the mail order thing. Hugs
ReplyDeleteTry pet shops for crushed walnut shells Melody,I think they are used for the bottom of cages or hutches.
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern Melody....boy you were speedy getting it stitched so quickly.
ReplyDeleteYour Wooly Bits project looks beautiful. You were so quick getting it made. Lve that turtle pincushion. How ingenious is that.
ReplyDeleteThe fried egg pincushion is unusual. The turtle sewing kit is unusual too. And a free pattern too!

Oh I am drooling over that wool , it looks wonderful . As for the crushed walnuts I just bought walnuts in the shell , ate the walnuts and crushed the shells :-), maybe too much work but they say pet stores have them . The turtle is simply too cute , have to go fetch that pattern , thanks Melody.
ReplyDeleteLove your felt pincushion... I am glad to see the tips you got here about the walnut shells as I have never used them yet...

I tried pet shops in Adelaide and they had NEVER heard of walnut shells as pet litter! I gave up and rang Hatched and Patched, Bathurst and got them mail order, but that was at least a year ago. Glad to see re other comments that some Melb shops are getting them in...will be on the look out when I visit next! Love love love the turtle, defiantly going to try and make one, fried egg is cute and original also, thanks for sharing!
