Tuesday Treasures

This week I thought I'd share one of my favourite writers, Bill Bryson.  I've read all of his books and own most of them in either hard copy or as audio books.

I love them all but my all time favourite is

which I bought from Audible.  Bill narrates it himself which adds to it's charm.  Here's what Audible says about it -
Bill Bryson was struck one day by the thought that we devote more time to studying the battles and wars of history than to considering what history really consists of: centuries of people quietly going about their daily business. This inspired him to start a journey around his own house, an old rectory in Norfolk, considering how the ordinary things in life came to be. Along the way, he researched the history of anything and everything, from architecture to electricity, from food preservation to epidemics, from the spice trade to the Eiffel Tower, from crinolines to toilets. And he discovered that there is a huge amount of history, interest and excitement - and even a little danger - lurking in the corners of every home.
It is a fascinating and very entertaining read.

Do you have a treasure to share with us today.  It can be a thing, a person, a place.  An idea, a feeling, a dream.  Anything you want. Just pop your details into Mr Linky to join in the fun.  Everyone is welcome to join in.

Today I want to share a fabulous blog, The Baking Bookworm.  There's all sorts of fun things shared by Laurie including a tutorial for this fun decoration.  This could be fun for kids still on school holidays.
As well as sewing, I love to read and I adore yummy food and Laurie has an abundance of these on her blog.

I just love these book plates very kindly shared by Catherine at Gingham Cherry.  She also shares a file for matching book marks.
Thank you so much Catherine.  They are wonderful.

  6. I've just downloaded the sample of Notes from a Small Island to my iPad. I want to read it the old fashioned way! It's WAY shorter than At Home so I'm going on Sandy's recommendation!
    Thanks Mel xx

  7. Bill Bryson is one of my favourite authors. I was hooked on the first sentence of his first book I ever read; "I was born in Des Moines. Well somebody has to be." from "The Lost Continent". I also loved "Notes from Big Country".

  11. Can you believe I've never read any of his books? I just went to my library last night, so I'll pin them for later. (it's over a 60 mile round trip for me). But I will try them, so thank you.
