Tuesday Treasures

I've always loved a good detective story and started reading Agatha Christie novels in my early teens. I tend to read more graphic depictions of crime now, think Val McDermid or Karin Slaughter.

I don't know what this says about me, or why I enjoy being frightened. I do like to read every night before I go to sleep and it is often this genre. Luckily my reading never gives me bad dreams. It is wonderful when you find a novel that 'really gets you in', one where you keep thinking, 'just one more chapter', even though you know you will be very tired the next day.

By the way the little book bag and book mark, at the top of this post, is a Marg Low pattern I made for my lovely friend Rosalie for Christmas.  I must make one for myself.

I treasure reading.  Do you have something you treasure and would like to share.  It can be a person, place or thing.  A hobby, a wish or a dream.  Just pop your details into Mr Linky and play along.

If Tanya and Rhonda Polk would email me I'd be very grateful.  I can't get the links to your blogs to work so I need to try and fix this problem so I can visit you.  Thanks.

  2. I started with Agatha when I was 9...LOVE her still...but I prefer cozy mysteries now, I don't like being frightened. I was reading a Dean Koontz novel [Whispers] at 2am one night, home alone, when someone tried to get in my front door. It was just a drunk teen looking for the party across the street, but it was sufficient to put me off Koontz, Stephen King, etc. Your little bag and bookmark are SO darling, I do think you need to make them for yourself!

And I do the same thing - I've been known to start a novel at 10pm and finish at 5am, lol!!

  5. I too have to read at night when i go to bed. It doesn't matter what time it is i must read at lest a few pages before I go to sleep. As an avid reader i will read almost anything, but I agree with you there is nothing like a go thriller.

  6. I also treasure a good read Melody...I love murder mystery movies but not to read. I'm sentimental and a sucker for a good romance perhaps set in days gone by or any kind of family secrets type mystery. One of my all time favourites is the "Cross stitch" series by Diana Gabaldon...LOVE IT! Waiting for the new book to come out not patiently either!
I adore the book bag and book mark you made Rosalie it's beautiful. Great post Mel!

  9. Definitely a woman after my own heart! I'm afraid reading is almost as necessary to me as breathing. Might explain why I don't get as much crafting done as I would like- too easily distracted!!!

  10. How Nice to see my Gorgeous book bag and book mark on your post Mel, you know how much I love it. My family always said I would read the labels on jam tins if I had nothing else. I could not imagine life without books. Hugs R.

  11. A good crime novel and a cuppa - what more could anyone want? Love reading crime fiction and finding new authors. The Age Saturday supplement a couple of weeks back had a great section on new books in different genres. Made a point of keeping that list so I can do some hunting. I do miss having a bookshop nearby, though. We have a great library but sometimes I don't want to wait.
    Happy Reading!

  12. I love a good murder too Melody, especially medieval murder mysteries like those by Margaret Fraser and Candice Robb. Your book bag is just gorgeous. My children gave me a Kindle for my birthday so I am starting to read ebooks too though I swore I never would.

  13. I love to read - from the side of the cereal packet in the morning to my latest novel at night. I love my Ebook reader, I love the stack of books beside my bed - my greatest fear is losing my sight so I can't read.

  14. I haven't heard of those to authors. I will have to add them to my lists. I do love thriller and crime novels, they usually don't effect my dreams. There has only ever been one novel that I have read that really did effect my dreams to the point that I had to stop reading it. It was the Patricia Cornwell book about Jack the Ripper, I still haven't finished it!

  15. Hi Mel, so glad to be linking with you today.. I love reading too, but can't come at anything scarey... I get night mares very easily, so I don't need anything which would encourage this...
