Tuesday Treasures

 Idris the Dragon.

John and I were reminiscing the other day, talking about the TV shows we watched with the boys when they were little and remembering how charming many were.  One of our very favourites was Ivor the Engine.  (You can watch the first episode HERE.)  This is the most charming little show about the adventures of a small green locomotive who lived in the "top left-hand corner of Wales" and worked for The Merioneth and Llantisilly Railway Traction Company Limited. His friends included Jones the Steam, Evans the Song and Dai Station, among many other characters.

My very favourite character was little Idris the Dragon A small, red dragon who sings in the choir for a time. Having been hatched from an egg in Ivor's fire, he lives with his wife Olwen and their twins, Gaian and Blodwyn, in the extinct volcano Smoke Hill. As well as singing, he proves useful by cooking fish and chips for the choir using his fiery breath.

I really treasure my memories of this delightful little show, which the whole family loved watching together.  Do you have a person, a thing, a memory, a place that you hold dear.  Please share it here as part of Tuesday Treasures.  Just pop your details into Mr Linky and play along.

  2. I don't remember this show, you must be younger than me. Shows that we watched as children hold a special part in our hearts. My favourite ones were Adventure Island and of course Play School.

  8. I don't remember Ivor the Engine at all and I'm sad for that. I'm amazed you remember it in such detail.
My kids loved Romper Room. It always amused me how much the hostess (Miss Helena) tried so hard to look like she was enjoying herself with all the kids running amok around her. Remember Mr Music and Mr Do-Bee?

  9. I've never heard of these shows but there were some that I watched with my boys - now they hate them, lol! But they bring back good memories for me, and they probably will for them too, later on.

  15. That sounds like a show I would have enjoyed watching with my son. His favorites were the Dukes of Hazard and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
We did watch Sesame Street together for a few brief years.
