Tuesday Treasures

Today I want to show you some lovely little enamel on copper pictures which were made by a friend of John's grandma, Nora Walsh.   I don't know anything about her but I do also have a watercolour and an oil painting by her so she was a very versatile artist.  Grandma gave us the pictures over 30 years ago and I got the impression she'd had them for a while before giving them to us.  I've tried googling Nora Walsh but to no avail.  I guess it will remain a mystery.
Speaking of mysteries the figures remind me of the movie Picnic at Hanging Rock.  I haven't seen this movie for a long time but I remember loving it when I saw it at the cinema.  I also loved the book by Joan Lindsay, I must try to get hold of the book and reread it.

I've always found Hanging Rock to have a mystical air about it and I've visited it many times.  The Harvest Picnic at Hanging Rock is always pretty fantastic too.

Do you have something you treasure to share with us today. It can be a thing, a person, a place, an idea, in fact anything you like to share.
Please put your details into Mr Linky to be part of the fun.

I thought we could make the first Tuesday in May a special Share Your Pet on Tuesday Treasures.   I'm giving you a bit of notice to give you time to take your pictures.  There will be a special giveaway too.

  4. Your pictures are beautiful and the girls do remind you of the ones from Picnic at Hanging Rock. The day I visited there it was rainy and cold and whether it was my vivid imagination or not it felt decidedly spooky that dayhanks for sharing the pictures and great photos.

  10. Lots of lovely memories came to me today thanks to your lovely pictures. Picnic at Hanging Rock was the first grown up movie I ever saw and I just loved it. Still love it to this day and I have re read the book many times. I even made my hubby take me to the Rock one time we drove to Melbourne and it was so wonderful and dramatic. I just loved it. Thanks for the lovely trip down memory lane today. xx

  12. Just a quick note on the paintings. Nora Walsh was my great aunt. Very talented indeed. You're very lucky indeed, having some of her copper artwork. As far as I remember being told, aunty Nora did the copper work in her very early days as an artist. I don't think there's much of her copper artwork around. Thanks for posting up the images, my Mother will love to see the images I'm sure.

  13. She was my great aunt too. She did those single pieces and sometimes multiples to make a large picture. Apart from her copper paintings, she did many oils and watercolors. In her very early days she ran a pottery in Melbourne and was known for her little donkeys pulling a cart, flowers and a version of the flying ducks you see on the walls. Unforunately whilst I own both an oil and water color of hers I don't own any of her copper paintings.

  15. I also have one of Nora Walsh's copper paintings. I am wondering if I can upload it to show you. It belonged to my grandmother and she got it from the Mount Scopus art exhibition.
